In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Department of Earth Science is one of the main applied basic departments in the College of Science, University of Baghdad, which was established in 1953. This department includes many scientific specializations branching from geology related to supplying many ministries in Iraq, including oil, industry, minerals, water resources and the environment, with geological cadres that contributed to building and developing the Iraqi economy. The department contributed to introducing geology to the curriculum of the Ministry of Education for the preparatory stage. The department has played, and still has a fundamental role in graduating many Arab brothers in various fields of geological specializations, who have had an important role in managing the wheel of industry and exploration of oil, minerals, and water resources in their countries.<\/h3>\n

I cannot fail to mention the role of the department in postgraduate studies for master\u2019s and doctoral studies in most of the department\u2019s specializations and its contribution to solving geoscientific problems through the research of postgraduate students, as well as the role of the department\u2019s distinguished professors in developing effective solutions to many geological dilemmas in Iraq and the Arab countries. As we mention the department, we must pay reverence and respect to our dear professors, the founders of the department and its pioneers, while preserving their titles, names, and positions for their role in developing the department from its founding until now. Finally, I hope that as I assume the presidency of the department for the second session, I will be up to the responsibility in preserving the department\u2019s integrity by preserving the department\u2019s name and history and striving to develop it, and that I will adhere to the basic rules set by our esteemed professors, and that I will be able, God willing, to be in the service of the department, including professors, students, and technical and administrative staff, and that the department will be formed as a team. Scientifically, he is at the forefront of the scientific movement in our dear college and our mother university, the University of Baghdad. May God grant us success.<\/h3>\n
