In the College of Science Department of Biotechnology at the University of Baghdad a
doctoral dissertation entitled ” Immunological study of SARS-CoV-2 in Iraqi patients ”
by Aymen Mohammed Ahmed was discussed, Under the supervision of Professor Dr.
Jinan M.J. Alsaffar. The research aimed to identify bacterial infections linked to
respiratory post-infection in Iraqi patients suffering from severe, acute, and mild cases
of SARS-CoV2, and to estimate the potential risk of bacterial Infection on the immune
systems of severe and acute patients compared to mild patients. The research results
showed that each of the isolates possessed the 16S rRNA gene with a 100% prevalence
rate, the molecular findings were consistent with the results obtained from the VITEK2
system. The unidentified organisms obtained from the Vitek2 system, make up
approximately 18% of the total isolates. while individuals in the hospital showed a
higher tendency to bacterial infection, and procalcitonin acted as a crucial determinant
in determining the relationship between secondary bacterial infection and the patient’s
health status.
