Department of Biology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Western Blot: ELISA Advantages and Disadvantages”. The lecture aimed to shed light on an important part of the immune tests, which is the Western blot as well as the ELISA, with an elucidation of the principle of the Western blot test, comparing this test with the ELISA test and explaining the similarities and differences and also the advantages and disadvantages of each of the two tests. The lecture presented by Dr. Yasser Bassem AbudlWahab included urging to conduct local scientific research specialized in the fields of scientific research using the Western blot technique, this technique holds significance in protein detection and precise level estimation, relying on the examination of the immunostaining, which is an important examination. It is used in cell and molecular biology, enabling the identification of specific proteins from complex protein structures of the cell, which depends on separating proteins according to size and transferring them to a solid supporting medium, and accurately identifying specific types of proteins using antibodies.
