The Department of Geology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Drug Abuse Isolates You from Society Forever.” The lecture aimed to introduce the menace of drugs and its impact on society to raise awareness of the harms of this scourge. It focused on combating the risks that lead to the destruction of nerve cells and body cells as a whole, in addition to its effects on the user’s body and various diseases resulting from it, such as AIDS, leukemia, and viral hepatitis.The lecture, presented by Assistant Lecturer Sally Hussein Ahmed and Assistant Lecturer Manar Naji Ghayib, highlighted that ignorance of the reality of drugs and family disintegration are among the most important reasons for the spread of drug abuse among various segments of society. It emphasized that the damages of drugs do not only affect the user but extend to harm the family and the entire community, calling for the necessity to combat this scourge and promote awareness of its harms.
