The Department of Biology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Artemis is a Java application for displaying pairwise comparisons.” The lecture aimed to introduce the Artemis program, which is a Java application for displaying pairwise comparisons between two or more DNA sequences by using Artemis to identify and analyze areas of similarity and difference between genomes and explore the conservation of synteny. The lecture, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rahman Mohammed, highlighted the essential use of Artemis in identifying variable genes and studying and determining the variable genes that are a fundamental factor in the survival of bacteria for an extended period in the host, such as humans, and their resistance to the immune system. Artemis is a free genome browser and an annotation tool that allows the visualization of sequence features for nitrogenous bases and next-generation data.
