The Department of Biotechnology, in collaboration with the Continuous Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Laboratory Safety and Security” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raad Falah Hassan. The lecture, presented by Assistant Professors Dr. Sahad Saad Mahmoud, Dr. Ibtihal Abdul Hadi, and Dr. Wasan Aboud, aimed to educate about biosafety guidelines for laboratories. These guidelines comprise essential policies, rules, and procedures that employees working in facilities handling microbiological agents like bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, prions, and other microbiological products need to observe for safety and security purposes. The lecture emphasized the importance of guidelines in ensuring the availability of appropriate management and organization for biosafety programs and practices implemented at all levels. This particularly pertains to preventive measures followed by laboratories.
