The Department of Geology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Iraqi Geological Stratigraphy” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan. The lecture, presented by Professor Dr. Salam Ismail Marhoon, aimed to explore key research papers and ideas proposed by Iraqi geologists alongside the contributions of the Geological Stratigraphy Committee. It focused on introducing Iraq’s regional geology and reviewing the outcomes of stratigraphic geological research within the country. Additionally, the lecture highlighted significant updates and revisions to lithological units and their stratigraphic boundaries. The lecture featured a review of studies aimed at enhancing scientific geological knowledge across various earth sciences. It facilitated the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and expertise among geologists and relevant professionals. The objective was to forge strong connections between academics and practitioners to advance the application of earth sciences and leverage these disciplines for the exploration of natural resources such as water, gas, oil, and economic minerals.
