The Department of Chemistry, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled “Principles of the Work of the Spectrometer” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falih Hassan, and attended several students, academic teachers and relevant expert of chemistry laboratories.

The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize with the mass spectrometer, which is an analytical technique for identifying the constituent elements of a substance or molecule, as well as how the mass spectrometer works, which is also used to clarify the chemical structures of molecules, such as peptides and other chemical compounds.

The workshop lectured by Assistant Professor Dr. Jalal Nasser highlighted the principle of the operation of the mass spectrometer, which depends on the displacement of chemical compounds to generate charged particles and measure their mass-to-charge ratio. In addition, reviewing the components of the three-unit mass spectrometer an ion source, a mass analyzer, and a detector.
