The Department of Life Sciences, in collaboration with the Development and Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, held a lecture entitled “Cyclofamide Causes External Defects in Embryos” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falih Hassan, and attended several research students and teachers, and medical professionals.
The purpose of the lecture was to identify congenital defects or congenital deformities, which are structural changes that appear at birth and can affect any part or parts of the body such as the heart, the brain, and the foot, as well as the effect of birth defects on the shape of the body or its function or both. Also, birth defects vary from mild to severe, as their severity depends on the affected organ and its vulnerability depending on the severity of the defect.
The lecture was presented by Dr. Amjad Turki Al-Rudini on the causes of foetal abnormalities with their different types and may have future consequences for the fetus’s health and ability to live normally which is simple but may detract from the aesthetic aspect, which is also irrefutable, reviewing factors that increase the chances of certain complications, such as abortion, preterm birth, and also abnormalities. Noting that the vast majority of congenital abnormalities are anonymous or due to genetic disorders and chromosomal deformation, the mother’s age at the time of pregnancy or harmful environmental factors, alcohol intake, tobacco smoking, some medications, some types of infection.
