The Department of Life Sciences, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled “Sinktron Sesame Centre” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falih Hassan, and attended several students, academic teachers and specialists in biological disciplines.
The workshop aimed to introduce the Centre of Sinktron in Scientific Research, particularly biological research and the dissemination of high-quality scientific research. It is the first global centre of excellence in scientific research in the Middle East, modelled on the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Europe, and represents a joint governmental organization of member States of the region under the auspices of UNESCO.
The workshop lectures were represented by Prof. Ayad Kazim Zaghir and Associate Professor Dr. Janan Attia Gaffel to familiarize the biological applications of the Sesame Centre and advance its advanced technologies and accelerated production in synchrotron light, which will be used in scientific research, education and training through several radiation packages including X-rays, UV and infrared, and the radiation use in research and scientific experiments, as well as its contribution to scientific research in physics, chemistry, biology, archaeology, environment, materials science and various applications in agriculture, engineering, pharmacy, medicine and industry.
