The Importance of Biometrics Systems, Their Types and Applications in Security Dealing
The Department of Biotechnology, in cooperation with the Continuing and Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture entitled “Types and Applications of Biometric Systems” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falih Hassan, and attended several students, academics, and specialists interested in the field of biometrics.
The purpose of the lecture was to familiarize the biometric systems, their applications, and their importance in protecting data on computers. Biometric systems are advanced technologies based on physiological or behavioural characteristics for the identification and verification of individuals. These systems include several types such as fingerprint measurements and reading the iris or retina, recognising the face, identifying blood vessels, hand engineering, as well as other technologies such as walking pattern recognition signature verification, and audio analysis.
The lecture was lectured by Mela Ghazi Abdul Halim, explaining how vital systems are used in many important applications such as security and surveillance, Identity checks in financial transactions, and their use in health care and transport, how the evolution of these systems contributes to enhancing security and protecting privacy.
