The Department of Astronomy and Space, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized the workshop entitled “Techniques and Applications of Radio Telescopes” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falih Hassan and supervised by the Head of the Department of Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Kamel Ahmad, and attended many student’s academics, and those concerned with radio astronomical monitoring attended.
The workshop aimed to demonstrate the importance of radio monitoring in knowing and detecting the most accurate details of celestial bodies in particular and the universe in general. Most recent astronomical discoveries were made via radio monitoring and were very difficult to obtain via visual observation.
The lectures included Prof. Dr. Kamal Mohammed Aboud, Assistant Professor Dr. Harith Saad Mahdi, Dr. Audi Attiwe, and Dr. Zina Fadil Kazim, introducing the types of radio telescopes and basing their work, demonstrating the most important applications of radio telescopes based on the frequency allocated for their monitoring and the most important foundations of radio interference technology and its principles. One of its advantages is that its waves can cross large and numerous barriers such as dense clouds, fog, and dust.
