Lecture about The Importance of Epigenetic Modifications and Their Relationship to Common Diseases
The Biological Research Unit for the Tropics regions, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University, of Baghdad, organized a scientific lecture entitled “The Epigenetic” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, and attended several postgraduatse, research students and those concerned with genetic biomedical matters.
The purpose of the lecture was to provide the participants with the specialization that deals with genetics or sequential epigenetics by studying variables that occur in a genetic phenotype for reasons not related to the change of DNA sequences. Epigenetics plays a crucial role in the development of common diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and disease and the detection of changes in gene expression that do not alter DNA sequences.
The lecture presented by Noor El-Huda Fakhri explained that epigenetic marks are small chemical marks added to the DNA or associated proteins, And they act as keys that control gene activity, showing that lifestyle plays a key role, Healthy habits balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management can have a positive impact on your epigenetic markers. Revealing research in this area with a direct link between epigenetic changes and various diseases for example, linking the abnormal methylation of certain genes to cancer, Epigenetic imbalances are associated with neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
