The Biological Research Unit for the Tropical Regions, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled “The Most Important and Harmful Benefits of Algae” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, and attended many postgraduates, academics and those interested in algae specialization.
The workshop aimed to review the introduction to the algae, their livelihood, types, applications, benefits, and harms as a group of thalusian floral plants that are not prosperous. The thalusian plants are plants whose body consists of thalos that are not characterized by their composition to real roots, stems and leaves.
The workshop was lectured by Zemen Abdul Hussein, Dr. Rafel Ismail and Merfat Abdel Hasan, highlighting algae and their uses in industries, especially medical ones, which rely heavily on algae; such as in the installation of toothpaste, skin cleanser, deodorant, industries and the production of medicinal drugs, Illustrating the problems raised by algae due to their presence in surface water streams as well as in treated and drinking water tanks and household use.
