The Department of Astronomy and Space, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a panel discussion entitled “Understanding Star Groups and Galaxy Building Blocks” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falih Hassan, under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Dr. Abdullah Kamel Ahmad.

The lecture aimed to understand the stellar clusters, which are essential components of galaxies and provide important insights into the process of star formation and evolution, as well as the importance of the chemical history of the universe, as these clusters are divided into two main types: open clusters and spherical clusters, each with unique characteristics.

The lecture lectured by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Hassan Abdullah reviewed critical astronomical laboratories in these stellar systems, their homogeneous star clusters help test star evolution models and calibrate cosmic distance scales to analyze its dynamics in exploring the distribution of dark matter and understanding the gravitational structure of galaxy. These clusters often reflect the complexities of the history of the integration and formation of galactical structures, reviewing the latest developments in spectroscopic and high-resolution imaging technologies.
