The Department of Astronomy and Space, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “Modern Monitoring Systems.” The event was held under the patronage of Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, Dean of the College, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Kamel Ahmed, Head of the Department.
The workshop, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Kamel Ahmed and Dr. Haider Redha Hussein, aimed to highlight the importance of advancements in monitoring systems and the practical necessity for their development. It focused on modern astronomical observation systems, which comprise a range of sophisticated technologies and tools that enable high-precision space exploration.
The workshop included an overview of several modern monitoring systems, including:Hubble Space Telescope (HST): Launched in 1990, it provides high-resolution images from outside Earth’s atmosphere.James Webb Space Telescope (JWST): Operational since 2021, it is the most powerful space telescope to date, specializing in infrared studies.Chandra X-ray Observatory: A telescope dedicated to X-ray astronomy.
