College Museum

The College of Science participates with its exhibits in the central museum of the University of Baghdad, which was established in 2007. Under the guidance of the former President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Musa Al-Moussawi, the museum was rehabilitated and renovated according to high-quality technical and aesthetic specifications. It was reopened on 13/3/2013 during the presidency of Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Rasool. On 20/3/2013, the museum was disaffiliated from the Department of Sports and Artistic Activities and became directly affiliated with the President of the University of Baghdad. This was done in recognition of the importance of the museum in university life.

The support provided by both the former and current President of the University of Baghdad had a great impact on what the University of Baghdad Museum has reached. In addition to the sincere efforts made by the museum renovation team, the museum appeared in a way that befits our mother university. The museum, in its new form, is no less important than the museums of the world, as evidenced by everyone who visited and saw it.

The museum currently houses more than (300) photographs representing the historical stages of the university since its establishment in 1957 to the present day. The photos are arranged according to the years of establishment of its colleges, institutes, and centers. A specific section of the museum is allocated to display historical photos of the presidency of the University of Baghdad, including oil paintings of the presidents of the University of Baghdad since its establishment until the end of the presidency of Professor Dr. Musa Al-Moussawi.

The museum also houses a large number of historical memorabilia of the university that represent different stages of its life, which is full of scientific achievements on various levels.

The museum also includes an electronic museum consisting of two (LED) screens that are used to display documentary recordings related to the University of Baghdad and to display historical photos that cannot be displayed inside the museum. The electronic museum is controlled from the museum director’s office through a computer that was prepared for this purpose. The museum is equipped with the internet, which is used to collect documentary photos about the University of Baghdad and its recordings, and everything related to the University of Baghdad. The museum is on its way to collecting everything related to the heritage and history of the University of Baghdad.

The University of Baghdad Museum is part of the project to build the historical memory of the university. It is the center of the main memory, while the colleges, institutes, and centers are the center of the secondary memory that supplies the university museum annually with everything related to their activities for the purpose of documenting them in the University of Baghdad Museum. This is, in short, the mechanism of the historical memory of the University of Baghdad.
