The history of the Department of Computer Science

    • The Department of Computer Science is one of the nine departments in the College of Science, which seeks all its members of the technical faculty to provide educational, research and advisory services that keep pace with quality standards in the field of computer science.

The department opened in the academic year 1983-1984, when the number of accepted students was 30.

In the academic year 1986/1987, the first batch of graduate students (Masters) was accepted, and the number of those accepted was 6 students. Work in postgraduate studies was suspended in the 2003/2004 academic year by virtue of a ministerial order due to the lack of a sufficient number of faculty members at the rank of professor or assistant professor, as the decision to stop postgraduate studies included most of the computer departments in Iraqi universities at the time. In the 2009/2010 academic year, master’s studies were resumed in the department after fulfilling the necessary conditions for the creation of postgraduate studies. In the academic year 2010/2011, a higher diploma study was introduced in the department, and the first batch of 12 students was accepted, who graduated in the following academic year.

In the 1997/1998 school year, the primary evening study was introduced in the department, where the evening study was a compensation for studying outside Iraq or studying in the governorates, because most students were associated with free work to support their families, as the country was suffering from a deterioration in the economic situation, as well as to give opportunities to the old graduates of specializations For those who did not have the opportunity to complete their studies of scientific communication in the field of computers 2001. Evening primary school was suspended in the 2003/2004 academic year. In the 2012/2013 school year, evening studies were resumed in the department.
