The Department of Biotechnology Sciences at the College of Science at the University of Baghdad is one of the leading scientific departments that contribute to developing knowledge and scientific research in the field of biotechnology. The department was established in 1993 and was specialized in postgraduate studies (MA and PhD), and then expanded to include primary studies in 1999. The department is distinguished by its educational programs dealing with medical, industrial, environmental, and plant biotechnology, which enables students to obtain in-depth knowledge and practical skills in these fields. Biotechnology is a science with many aspects and applications, and it needs other sciences to achieve full integration to produce materials of industrial and medical value. The department includes an elite group of academic teachers with master’s and doctoral degrees who have contributed significantly to building a solid scientific base for this vital specialty in Iraq. The department aims to build strategies for modern and future scientific projects and provide the community with those with scientific qualifications in various research fields for applications of biotechnology.
