The Biological Research Unit for Tropical Regions is one of the formations affiliated with the College of Science at the University of Baghdad. Since its establishment in 2001, the unit has been distinguished as an active research center known for its scientific output and the high-quality research conducted by its staff, published in esteemed local and international peer-reviewed journals. In addition to its research achievements, the unit provides scientific and consultancy services to researchers and postgraduate students.
The unit houses four specialized scientific laboratories in microbiology, pathological analyses, immunology, and molecular biology. These laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to conduct scientific and applied research aimed at addressing societal challenges.
Since 2004, the staff of the Biological Research Unit has been organizing a variety of specialized training courses annually. These include the Basic Pathological Analyses Course, the Use of ELISA Technique in Biological Tests Course, the Principles of Clinical Sample Collection and Biological Models Course, and the Principles of Biostatistics Course.
In addition, the unit regularly hosts seminars, workshops, and discussion sessions targeting graduates of life sciences, biotechnology, and chemistry departments, as well as researchers from other universities and ministries. These activities aim to enhance and refine scientific and technical skills.
