Abstract
Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCF) were used in this study as endless single-mode fiber with an outer diameter of 125µm which are compatible with all common fiber tools.
The present work concentrates on the theoretical study, where the Photonic Crystal Fibers based on Surface Plasmon Resonance (PCF-SPR) sensor was modeled and numerically simulated. The finite element method-based simulation tool (COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4) was used to design and study the influence of different geometric parameters on the sensing performance including (diameter of air hole of PCF, the ratio of air hole diameter to pitch, thickness of gold layer and refractive index of toxic metal ions in water sample). The chemically stable plasmonic material gold (Au) of thickness 40 nm was used to exhibit the plasmonic phenomena and help to detect the refractive index of the surrounding medium.
