The Department of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, inaugurated its first festival for World GIS Day concurrently with World Entrepreneurship Week, under the patronage of the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Munir Hameed Al-Saadi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assist.Prof.Dr. Raed Falih Hassan and in the presence of the representative of the Deanship. Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assist.Prof.Dr. Akram Nouri Sadeq, and Assistant Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs. The festival aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of geographic information systems and their role in society through various events held in educational institutions, governmental organizations, and specialized field-related organizations. The festival included lectures presented by the Head of the Department of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems, Assistant Professor Dr. Bushra Ali Ahmed, titled ” Geographic information systems and their applications in various fields,” a lecture by Professor Dr. Fouad Kadim Mahshi titled “The Use of Geographic Information Systems in Crisis Management,” and a lecture by researcher Saif Al-Allaq and student Fatema Jalal titled “The Latest Technological Updates for Esri Company.” These lectures covered the latest technological advancements, sharing expertise, and exchanging ideas in this dynamic field to encourage youth to explore GIS as a career path. The festival featured the reciting of speeches and poems, artistic and cultural events, and the distribution of certificates of appreciation among representatives of the deanship, the festival’s preparatory committees, top students, and faculty members. The representative of the Dean of the College Assistant Professor for Administrative Affairs Assistant Professor Dr. Akram Nouri Sadeq opened an artistic and scientific exhibition, which included paintings, handicrafts, scientific devices, and scientific publications.as well as organizing the seismic monitoring laboratory and information systems.
