In the College of Science Biotechnology Department at the University of Baghdad a doctoral dissertation entitled “Investigation the Effect of Colicin Extracted from E.coli on Autophagy and Inflammatory Response” by Shahad Mansour Salman was discussed, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Hind Hussein Obaid. The aim of the research, which is the first of its kind in the world, is to investigate the effect of colicin extracted from E. coli bacteria (gut microbiota) isolated from stool samples of healthy people in the process of autophagy and the inflammatory response. The thesis concluded that the majority of gram-negative gut microbiota present in the digestive system of healthy people showed an increase in antibiotic resistance. Additionally, new bacterial isolates were recorded for the first time globally in a global gene bank from gut microbiota isolated from individuals’ stools. This study is the first of its kind globally, revealing that colicin stimulated the autophagy process and reduced inflammation.
