The Biological Research Unit for Tropical Zones, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit and the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the College of Science, the University of Baghdad, and in coordination with the Immunodeficiency Control Division in the Department of Public Health, held an orientation and educational symposium entitled “AIDS and risky behaviors.”The symposium aimed to clarify the risks of certain behaviors that contribute to the spread of AIDS in society, explore ways to address them, and provide psychological support to those infected, given the increased likelihood of infection with the virus or others. The symposium, presented by the consulting doctor Dr. Fadhil Hussein Alwan and dentist Dr. Shaima Salman Kazim, included explanations that AIDS is a group of diseases and not a disease itself, known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. They pointed out that most cases of the disease are transmitted through infected blood, emphasizing that the infection with the immunodeficiency virus is linked to risky personal behaviors. They urged working to change the behavior of infected individuals and taking care of them to limit the spread of this disease, emphasizing that the virus is present in human body fluids such as blood, breast milk, saliva, and others, and these fluids act as carriers for the virus.
