Department of Biology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Poisonous Plants.” The lecture aimed to provide detailed information about poisonous plants found in areas inhabited by humans, emphasizing the importance of avoiding touch or consumption of these plants. Additionally, it raised awareness about avoiding the consumption of unfamiliar or unknown plants and exercising caution when dealing with poisonous plants by using gloves, appropriate clothing, and ensuring good ventilation to prevent exposure to toxins. The lecture, presented by Dr. Alaa Mohammed Hassan, included an introduction to the importance of poisonous plants, their types, and the caution needed as some plants can be toxic if ingested. It highlighted the potential harm to some pets, emphasizing the need for vigilance and placing such plants out of reach of children and domestic animals. The lecture recommended wearing protective clothing, such as gloves and long jackets when working in areas where poisonous plants may be present.
