The Biological Research Unit for Hot Regions at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a training workshop titled “Preparation of Agricultural Media.”The workshop aimed to introduce participants and train them on the types of agricultural media specific to bacteria, methods of diagnosing them, types of agricultural media and their components, the purpose of their use, as well as methods of preparation, sterilization, and the importance of suitable nutrients for the growth of microorganisms in the laboratory. This helps researchers isolate bacteria in a pure form. The workshop, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Maysa Kazim, Assistant Professor Dr. Sinaa Waleed Mohammed, and Dr. Haifa Nouri, included highlighting how to prepare natural and artificial agricultural media such as pda and macconkey agar. The workshop explained techniques for streak plate cultures and how to incubate them using incubators to later study the morphological characteristics of colonies, identify their properties, and observe their shapes under a light microscope. Additionally, the workshop covered the types of agricultural media, methods of preparation, the purpose of their use, and possible diagnostic methods using these media.
