The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture entitled “Optical Cable.” The lecture aimed to introduce optical cable networks, shed light on their types, technologies, and components, and explain why this type of network is chosen to be the backbone of internet service worldwide and in Iraq. The lecture presented by assistant professor Nahla Abdul Rahman Hussein highlighted the advantages of optical cables in terms of speed and the large volume of data transferred reliably and securely. It explained how to choose the essential components of such networks based on the appropriate number of users and the suitable location for installing these devices. The lecture also discussed the obstacles that may be faced installation and operation of optical cable networks reaching homes, emphasizing the importance of the project.
