The Chemistry Department at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a panel discussion entitled “Chemical Safety and Security,” which is part of the requirements of the Bologna educational system under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Al-Abadi. The aim of the panel discussion was to identify chemical safety, which is one of the most important points that must be provided to achieve safety in laboratories, where safety and fire prevention systems must be in place, as well as advanced sensors for volatile gases, which reduces the occurrence of disasters due to any mistake.The discussion panel, moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Khitam Tareq Ahmed, included the presentation of first-year students and their studies on chemical safety, the identification of chemical substances, dual use of materials, necessity of achieving safety and security inside the chemical storage, as well as promoting a culture of chemical safety and security in university laboratories, preserving the environment, applying principles of green chemistry in the chemical storage, prevention of poisoning, professional behavior, the relationship between security and safety, methods of inventory destruction, and other studies discussed by the students in their discussion panel.
