The Department of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled “Smart Cities in Achieving Sustainable Development”.The workshop aimed to introduce sustainable smart cities and their key dimensions in construction, smart economy, environment, life, and smart transportation. It also highlighted the role of creativity, innovation, solutions, and experiences in creating smart cities.The workshop, presented by Dr. Sondos Abdul-Abbas, Assistant Professor Dr. Zahraa Najm, and Assistant Lecturer Muhammed Ali, discussed the need to train specialized personnel in urban planning, especially regarding smart and sustainable cities. They highlighted the importance of learning from the experiences of other countries, including neighboring ones, through scientific and technological communication. They also stressed the necessity of highlighting the role of remote sensing in spatial analysis to choose the best locations for building smart and sustainable cities in Iraq.
