Assistant Professor Dr. Raad Falah Hassan, the Dean of the College of Science at the University of Baghdad, inaugurated the sixth Astronomical Festival organized by the Department of Astronomy and Space under the theme “Astronomy and Space: Between Science and Hobby” The event was attended by the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, department heads, professors, researchers, and students. The festival aimed to address many questions that occupy the minds of students and researchers about this science and its mysteries. It also sought to reveal the Creator’s creativity in shaping the universe, where humans have made numerous astonishing scientific discoveries throughout history, aided by advanced imaging techniques. Additionally, the festival showcased the equipment used in imaging. The exhibition’s opening featured remarks from Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Al-Rikaby, head of the Astronomy and Space Department. He emphasized the department’s significance as the only one of its kind among Iraqi universities, boasting rare specializations that are internationally recognized. Dr. Al-Rikaby highlighted Iraq’s recent membership in the International Astronomical Union and showcased the department’s key research and observational activities. Additionally, he presented student contributions, competitions, and the latest scientific outputs, including research papers, theses, and student achievements.
