The Department of Geology, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “Natural Gas Extraction Process,” under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Falah Hasan. The workshop, presented by Dr. Rana Abbas Ali, aimed to introduce the natural gas extraction process, which constitutes a group of colorless, flammable gases primarily composed of hydrocarbons. Natural gas is found alongside crude oil as a type of petroleum. The presentation covered the methods used in natural gas extraction, which depend on various factors such as the location and composition of the raw gas. It highlighted how some of its reservoirs, located underground, are subjected to sufficient internal pressures to migrate towards the well and reach the Earth’s surface naturally without the need for any extraction process. Additionally, it mentioned the use of pumps in the extraction process.
