A scientific lecture at Faculty of Science highlighted on plant extracts against local isolation of a bacterium
Under the auspices of the Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Read Faleh Hassan, with the presence students, teaching stuff and those concerned with agricultural engineering and nutrition
Department of Biotechnology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College, organized a scientific lecture tagged “The vital activity of some plant extracts against the local isolation of Streptococcus mutant bacteria”.
The lecture aimed to discuss the possibility of isolating bacteria from the oral cavity and diagnosing them, studying the effect of extracts on the microbial balance in the mouth , their effectiveness as anti-adhesion gum , manufacturing them containing plant extracts, and rate of release of phenolic compounds.
Dr. Roaa Jassim Kazim, as a lecturer highlighted on the possibility of manufacturing medical gum supported by plant extracts of grape juice residues, caper roots and cress seeds to inhibit Streptococcus mutants bacteria that cause isolated tooth decay, the researcher recommended to use a grape juice residues, caper roots and cress seeds in inhibiting other types of bacteria to study the effect of medical gum in reducing the microbial content of patient’s mouth after chewing gum for a different period of time.
