Under the patronage of the Dean, Assistant Professor Raed Falah Hassan, with attending of teaching staff, students, and individuals interested in agricultural and water resources.

Department of Biotechnology, in collaboration with Continuing Education Unit, organized a lecture entitled “Hydroponics”

The lecture aimed to shed light on worsening problem of drought in wide areas of the world, which has increased in recent years due to decreased rainfall, leading to a decrease in soil moisture content and causing plants to suffer of water Scarcity accompanied by severe evaporation, as a result of rising temperatures. This has prompted researchers to focus on finding ways to Decrease the impact of water Scarcity as much as possible.

The lecture presented by Dr. Sanaa Abdul Wahid explained some of technologies used that require minimal amounts of water and smaller agricultural areas, while still providing good production according to the required specifications and without the original plant growth season. Hydroponics is one of these techniques, showcasing many types of systems used in hydroponic agriculture and comparing the production of hydroponic with soil-based agriculture.

The lecture concluded that hydroponic is the key to product increase as a modern system and the necessity of introducing such technologies into agricultural production and leaving the use of old traditional methods to avoid the problems of agricultural products.
