The Department of Remote Sensitivity and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, opened its second festival of World Geographic Information Systems Day under the slogan “Our Planet is Our Responsibility” sponsored by the President of Baghdad University Professor Dr. Baha Ibrahim Ensaf and supervised by the Dean of the College Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan and attended by the representative of the Dean Associate Dean for Student Affairs Professor Dr. Uday Hatem Shaaban and the Dean Assistant for Administrative Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdulla, heads of scientific departments,  academics and students.

The festival’s goal is to promote sustainable development goals for sustainable cities and societies, clean and affordable energy, decent work, economic and development growth, clean water and hygiene, hunger and poverty eradication, and gender equality as well as promoting awareness and understanding about GIS and its role in society through a variety of events in educational and governmental institutions.

The festival included the speech of the Head of the Department of Sensitivity and GIS Assistant Professor Dr. Bushri Ali lectures emphasising sustainable development and smart cities using GIS and mapping for a greener future and important GIS applications, alumni paragraph, exhibitions on remote sensitivity research and projects, art and formative exhibitions, scientific and educational posters, The lectures dealt with the latest technological developments, sharing experiences.

The festival also indicated the distribution of discretionary certificates among representatives of the Deanship and the preparatory committees for the festival, outstanding students, academics and distinguished associates as well as the opening by the Dean’s representative of the College of Art and Science exhibits, including paintings, art exhibits, composition and handicrafts and scientific devices, student innovations and scientific publications, as well as the organization of the seismic laboratory and information.
