The Physics Department, in cooperation with the Development and Continuing Education and Educational Guidance Units at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, held a workshop entitled “The Impact of Smoking on The Environment and Social Responsibility” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, and attended several students in the department.
The workshop aimed at raising awareness and increasing participants’ knowledge of the health risks associated with smoking and its impact on the health of society, analysing environmental impacts by demonstrating how smoking affects the environment, including pollution and waste, and promoting social responsibility: encouraging participants to reflect on their role in addressing the smoking phenomenon, both as individuals and as part of society.
The workshop that presented by Dr. Anam Mohamed Abdul Majid and Associate Professor Afaf Fadil Sultan to discuss the impact of smoking on health, the environment, and social responsibility in developing smoking cessation strategies and providing information and resources on cessation methods and supporting smokers in taking effective steps to promote community cooperation and encourage collaboration among participants; civil society organizations and government bodies to work together to reduce smoking and its negative effects include health, the environment, the economy, social harms and other negatives affecting smokers and placing them in a responsibility to society and against the damage caused by non-smokers surrounds.
