The Department of Chemistry was established since the College of Science was founded on 3/27/1949. The department became involved in many scientific activities, which culminated in the opening of postgraduate studies in 1961-1962 for the master’s level to complete its scientific career by establishing a doctoral study in 1976-1977, where a generation was produced with the ability to Providing solutions for many industries outside the scope of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is worth noting that when the College of Science was established in 1949, its dean was Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Douri. The College of Science at that time included two departments: Naturals, which included chemistry, animals, and plants, while the other department was known as Physics and Mathematics. 1970 Chemistry departments were created in the College of Agriculture, Education and Science, so that the University of Baghdad had one department for chemistry, and its headquarters were in Adhamiya in 1983. Then the College of Science was transferred from Adhamiya to its current location in Al-Jadriyah within the University of Baghdad complex, so the Chemistry Department continued to produce graduates since then to become Many of them are university professors, administrators, and researchers who hold many important positions in all aspects of the country.
