A lecture at the College of Science discusses the abundance of simple sequence repeats (SSR) in a bacterial genome
In cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science at the University of Baghdad, the Department of Life Sciences organized a lecture on “Using Perl language to automate the possibility of simple sequence repeats (SSR) to enroll with phase variation” in the presence of a number of students, researchers, and those who are concerned with biological affairs.
The lecture aimed to identify the abundance of simple repeating sequences in the bacterial genome, which leads to thinking about programming these simple repeating sequences because they have the ability to act as a variant of the genetic phase of the bacterial genome.
The lecture presented by Dr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman included a review of the creation of programs that make it possible to search in many simple repetitive sequences and speculate that they act as a variant of the genetic phase of the bacteria genome. He noting that the programs depended on several criteria, including what was used to determine that simple repeated sequences have the ability to change the genetic phase, indicating that they were taken from published research, including the value of Z score using a Markov model, synonymous shuffling model and the position of SSR within the gene or promoter, He emphasised the use of PERL, CGI, HTML language for this purpose.
