A lecture in the College of Science finds the effect of obesity and stem cells in the treatment of diabetes
The Department of Biotechnology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, held a lecture entitled “The Effect of Obesity and Diabetes on Stem Cells Derived from Adipose Tissue” in the presence of a number of students and researchers concerned with medical affairs.
The lecture presented by Dr. Ali Qassem Khaz’al aimed to shed light on the data indicating that the diabetes environment alters the immunological properties of stem cells in adipose tissue with a shift towards an inflammatory phenotype that may limit the idea of self-treatment, in addition to reviewing the results that support the idea that the use of these cells could be a useful strategy to enhance the potential of stem cells in the cellular treatment of diabetes.
